but if you don’t like playing video games AND you think it should be an option to skip actual game play then you shouldn’t be working in the gaming industry

I know female gamers who don’t give two shits about combat, and are driven to play the game for the story.  This play style is not wrong or more valid than playing the game with combat.

Seriously, I’m fucking sick and tired of self-proclaimed gamers (especially females and/or feminists) attacking one another for PERSONAL FUCKING OPINIONS on how they would want to play THEIR game. On top of that? If there is an option in a game to skip combat, that does not personally affect you. at. fucking. all. IT IS OPTIONAL. All Hepler is saying that there should be an option. 

I’m so flabbergasted that some people feel insulted that others do not want to play games THEIR WAY. This is all fucking bullshit elitism that is ruining the gaming community.

Oh btw, the question says,”put one thing in games to appeal to a broader audience…” That includes more than just females, and she isn’t speaking from a place representing what a female gamer would want. From her PoV, as a writer for games, it makes sense she would want to skip combat. Also, if a player can skip dialogue or the plot of a game (to each his own) there should be an option to skip combat.

Btw, all this hate towards Jennifer Hepler is from a place of deep homophobia, insecurity, misogyny and  misplaced anger over a fucking video game that didn’t deliver on it’s sequel.

The hype for one of the year’s hottest video games, Mass Effect 3 (out March 6, on PS3, Xbox 360 and PCs, ages 17-up) is reaching new stratospheric heights.

But next week, a select intrepid few will have the opportunity to play the full game before it hits stores. Publisher Electronic Arts will be launching copies of the game into space using weather balloons that will be released in New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Berlin, London and Paris.

Each game has a GPS tracking device onboard and fans can track their return to the Earth on masseffect.com to find a copy and play it a week or more before the game hits stores. (Might not be a bad idea to follow @MassEffect, either.)
